This standard provides recommended course guidelines for the minimum essential training of, and a procedure for the certification of two levels of personnel to perform police and security radiography.

This standard covers only those radiographic testing procedures and techniques in which training has been provided in accordance with the course requirements and guidelines in Appendix A and Appendix B.

Certification to this standard shall provide recognition of the qualifications and competence of an individual to perform basic radiography using low energy portable equipment and advanced radiography using a full range of radiography equipment.

This certification procedure does not of necessity cover radiographic testing procedures and techniques required for specific situations. Organizations and agencies making use of this standard shall determine that personnel performing radiographic testing procedures and techniques required for specific situations are further trained and qualified to meet the additional requirements as outlined in Appendix F before they perform police radiographic nondestructive testing in such specific situations.

The standard provides for the testing and qualifying of personnel in the general aspects of radiation hazard control in radiography. It does not qualify the individual in the safe handling of specific devices or in the safe operation of specialized procedures. Organizations making use of this standard shall ensure that personnel are familiar with relevant equipment and are qualified to work safely with this equipment.

Organizations and personnel making use of this standard shall comply with such requirements of the relevant regulatory authorities as may apply, i.e. Atomic Energy Control Board, Federal or Provincial Health Authorities, etc.

This standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects asociated with its use. Anyone using this standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.
